  Your card information is stored on the actual device, not the internet. Transactions are made by using a short range wireless communication of only a few centimeters. When you hold your device near the contactless reader it communicates with the reader using a secure encrypted language.

• Is it secure?

  Yes, digital wallets offer enhanced security over using your card. This is how:

  • You don’t give your physical card to anyone.
  • Your name, card number and security code are encrypted and stay private.
  • All of the payment technologies use a form of encryption to create virtual card numbers – your credit card’s information is not shared with a merchant.

• Do I have the same fraud protections?

  Yes. Plus real-time push alerts of transactions to your mobile device for added security.

• Is there a transaction fee for digital payments?

  No. There are no additional fees for using your digital wallet.

• Are business credit cards accepted?

  Yes, all Village Bank, A Division of TowneBank, Mastercard debit and credit cards are digital wallet-enabled.

• How will I know if a merchant accepts digital wallet payments?

  Look for these logos on display by your merchant. If they don’t accept digital wallet payments, it’s okay, you can use your actual card at any time.
